Technician grade membership is for those who have approximately two years of experience in the fire sector and meet our academic and other requirements as set out below. Technician grade member of the IFEN also benefits from esteemed professional recognition in the national fire sector using the post nominal TIFEN.
Academic Requirements
Applicants should provide evidence that they have achieved a qualification (or a combination of qualifications) that meets the following criteria:
In a fire-related subject area
Requiring at least 130 hours of learning time (at least 13 credits)
Examples of qualifications that meet the criteria include:
Certificate in Fire Science, Operations, Fire Safety and Management
Certificate in Fire Service Operations and Incident Command Operational
Firefighting Apprenticeship or Experience
Fire Protection Technician registration or successful completion of a recognized educational program for Technician Grade
Other Requirements:
At least 2 years of experience of working in a fire-related role
Evidence of completion of at least 120 hours of relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the previous 12 months.
